You’ve probably experienced the disappointment (and maybe a little guilt) at finding food in the fridge that has gone bad because the container got shoved to the back. Out of sight is out of mind, after all. But when you put food in an opaque container, it doesn’t matter if it gets shoved to the back of the refrigerator or not; it is out of sight because you can’t see what's in there, increasing your chances of wasting food and wasting money.

Choosing better food storage containers can’t help the fact that sometimes, food ends up in the back recesses of your fridge and may languish there until inedible. However, choosing clear food storage containers can help with visibility. Then you can at least see what's back behind the bottles of salad dressing.

Last week, Aldi offered some clear Oxo lookalike containers that were great for dry goods at a much lower cost than the big brand’s version. This week that oh-so-useful Finds aisle has clear containers that are perfect for the fridge, and they are near copycats of one of our favorite Rubbermaid Brilliance lines.

Aldi’s Crofton 10-Piece Food Storage Containers

We love Rubbermaid Brilliance because the containers come in a good variety of sizes, clean well in the dishwasher, and are resistant to stains and odors. They have locking airtight lids to keep food extra fresh, and they’re see-through. The one drawback to these super functional storage containers can be their price. There are plastic and glass options which can run for upwards of $40-plus on Amazon.

Aldi’s Crofton 10-piece set (five containers with five lids) in the Aldi Finds aisle this week are just plastic, clear, fridge and freezer safe, and the lids lock so they are airtight. Of course, it’s the glass that keeps the Rubbermaid containers from being resistant to stains, but if you don’t put tomato sauce in the Aldi containers, they’re much less likely to stain. As for odors, avoid putting raw garlic or onion in there, and you’ll likely keep them free from strong smells.

The set features two 1.5-cup containers, two 4-cup containers, and one 18.6-cup container, and it’s just $12.99—a real bargain compared to the Brilliance line.

These useful food storage containers go on sale on March 26 for one week only or until supplies run out. We’ll tell you what. With the warmer weather upon us, we’re eyeing up that 18.6-cup container because it’s just perfect for freezing homemade ice cream! So don’t sleep on this deal because we’re sure we’re not the only ones who realize what a steal this is.
